Jupiter — The Complete Profile

Jupiter's symbolic logic begins with a simple physical fact: it is the largest planet in the solar system. Roughly 142,000 kilometres in diameter, revolving in the 5th orbit, taking about 12 years to complete one round of the zodiac. From this single observation, a cascade of significations follows.

Because it is the biggest planet, it becomes the karaka for the biggest organ in the body — the liver, which sits in the stomach region and is itself the largest internal organ of the human body. Because it is the biggest, it represents anything in bulk: bulk money (treasuries, banks, donations), bulk energy stored in the body (fat, calories), bulk respect (generosity, esteem from others), and bulk teaching (gurus, mentors, advisors, sages). Even the foods Jupiter rules — bananas, coconuts, mangoes, jackfruit — tend to be the largest of their category.

This pattern of cascading significations from a single physical principle is one of the elegant features of astrology. Jupiter is bulk. Once that is grasped, everything else follows.

The two rashi ownerships are not incidental. Sagittarius is the natural 9th house of dharma, fortune, and God's grace. Pisces is the natural 12th house of foreign places, expenses, moksha, and detachment. Both houses sit in domains where Jupiter's qualities — fortune, divinity, expansion, philosophy — operate naturally.

Of Jupiter's many karakas, two stand above the rest, each carrying a formal title in the tradition.

Puthirakaraka — Planet of Offspring

Jupiter is the Graha Karaka for childbirth in both male and female horoscopes. Whenever a chart is examined for progeny, Jupiter must be checked alongside the 5th house, the Lagna, the 7th house, and the 11th house. If Jupiter is connected with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11, it supports childbirth. If it is connected with 4, 8, or 12, it negates.

There is also a special damaging combination known as Karaka Bhava Nashti — when Jupiter is the Cuspal Sub Lord of the 5th house and is also connected with 6, 8, or 12, the childbirth bhava is destroyed. Dhanakaraka — Planet of Wealth

Jupiter is the karaka not for all money, but specifically for bulk, accountable, public money — the kind kept in banks, in treasuries, paid as monthly salary, donated openly, channelled into welfare. This is sometimes called white money, in contrast to the black money of Venus (own, unaccountable, hidden).

When Jupiter is connected with 2, 6, or 10, the native accumulates this kind of wealth. When connected with 1, 5, or 9, the native gives it away — donations, dharma, charity. The distinction is foundational and will be explored fully in its own article in this series.

Body Parts

Liver primarily, then fat and adipose tissue, the stomach region, growth organs. Jupiter is also the collective karaka for all five vital organs — brain, lungs, heart, kidneys, and liver — though it takes specific responsibility for the liver. Spleen and small intestine fall under Jupiter as well, with the small intestine shared with Ketu.

Attributes and Mind

Children, common money, softness, culture, honesty, straightforwardness, holiness, discipline, respect for others, orthodoxy, spirituality, fortune, divine intuition, positive thoughts, decent food habits, energy and calories, progeny ability, expansion, generosity, altruism. The picture is one of natural goodness — the qualities a respected elder embodies.

Relations

Teachers at every level — school teacher, professor, mentor, advisor — all fall under Jupiter as Guru karaka. Saints, gurus, priests, and counsellors belong here too.

Foods

Honey, all natural fruits, sugarcane juice, banana, coconut. These are the temple offerings to God, and each carries Jupiter's signature of natural, low-calorie, life-supporting nourishment. A coconut consumed without mixing anything with it is said to boost the immunity power of the human body.

Places

Educational institutions, pooja rooms, temples, cow sheds, banks, treasuries — places of learning and reverence.

One of the most useful Jupiter principles is the inner-outer division of its karakas.

What makes this split powerful is that it operates on two parallel planes — the body and the wallet — and the rules are identical.

• Connected with 1, 5, 9the inner karaka is strong, the outer is weak. On the body plane, energy and stored fat are easily burnt out, the native stays slim. On the money plane, the native donates money to others and does not keep it for himself.
• Connected with 2, 6, 10the outer karaka is strong, the inner is weak. On the body plane, energy stored as fat is retained. On the money plane, the native accumulates bulk wealth.
• Connected with 4, 8, 12both inner and outer are damaged. On the body, fat is stored without burning, leading to lifelong obesity. On the money plane, neither donation nor accumulation flows easily.

Across multiple life areas, the same warning appears: Jupiter should not be connected with 8 or 12. The reason changes by domain, but the rule holds.

The 8–12 rule for Jupiter is not a single rule but a recurring pattern. Wherever Jupiter is meant to bring fortune, blessing, or divine support, the 8–12 connection withdraws it.

Jupiter rules three nakshatras — Punarvasu, Vishakha, and Purva Bhadrapada — and runs a Vimshottari Dasha period of 16 years, the third-longest after Venus (20 years) and Rahu (18 years).

A Jupiter Dasa typically activates the themes Jupiter carries: children may come into the native's life through own birth or marriage, educational opportunities may open, spiritual practice may deepen, teaching or advisory work may begin, and questions of liver health, weight, and diet may surface.

Because Jupiter is a slow-moving planet — about four to five months in one star, twenty days in one sub, roughly one year in one rashi — its transit also matters when Jupiter is itself the Cuspal Sub Lord of a house being analysed. The transit window is long enough to influence events meaningfully, unlike fast-moving planets where the transit passes too quickly to register.

A planet's Dasa significator is permanently fixed from birth. If Jupiter is connected with 4, 6, 10 in a chart, that connection holds whether Jupiter runs as Dasa lord, Bhukti lord, or Antara lord at any point in the native's life.
