But if you study Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), you’ll notice something interesting: these planets don’t hold the same foundational place.
In most forms of Vedic Astrology, only the visible planets (Sun through Saturn, plus Rahu and Ketu) are used for judgment. The outer planets are present in charts, yes — but does that mean they have no relevance? Not quite.

- Example: Saturn is your active dasha lord, and Neptune transits over your natal Saturn → confusion, dissolving structures, or spiritual awakening themes may appear.
The 2° Rule
In practice, these influences aren’t felt broadly like a sign transit. They become sharp and undeniable when the outer planet’s contact is within 2 degrees of exact conjunction.
This narrow orb makes outer planet testing surprisingly straightforward. Go back into your own timeline:
- Check major life changes.
- See which planet’s dasha you were running.
- Look if Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto were within 2° of that dasha planet at the time.
The results are often striking.
Why It Matters
The outer planets won’t replace the traditional grahas in Vedic Astrology. But their intersections with dasha lords in tight orb can reveal why some events feel more shocking, fated, or transformative than the usual planetary cycles alone would suggest.
