Cuspal Interlinks (CIL): the Effective Links method
The Cuspal Interlinks (CIL) method is an advanced development of KP stellar astrology. Where most systems read conjunctions and aspects, CIL works almost entirely from the cuspal sub-lord — the fastest-moving element in a chart, changing every fifteen seconds to a minute — and from the chain of significations running through it. That speed is the point: it is what lets two charts a minute apart give different answers.
The three levels
Every link is read across three levels, and the vocabulary matters, because each level answers a different question:
- Source (Planet)what is available — the houses the planet itself signifies.
- Star Lord (Matter)what the period is about — the houses supplied by the nakshatra lord.
- Sub Lord (Decider)whether it happens at all — the houses the sub-lord permits, and the ones it refuses.
A house named at Source level is not yet a promise. It becomes one only if the Star Lord makes it the matter at hand and the Sub Lord does not veto it.
What an effective link has to survive
Houses are not simply collected. Each is put through a sequence of tests, and what remains at the end is the set of effective links:
- 01Saptam pair analysisthe seventh-from relationship between houses is resolved first, because it can promote a house that no single level offered.
- 02The eighth and twelfth exclusionsa house whose eighth or twelfth already sits in the effective set is cancelled. This is the test that removes most candidates.
- 03Evolving pair checkspairs that develop into one another are read together rather than separately.
- 04The even/odd rulewhere every surviving link is even, or every one is odd, the matching Source houses are drawn in with them.
- 05Source developmentthe surviving set is finally re-read against the Source level, which is where a link either firms up or falls away.
The order is not interchangeable. Applying the exclusions before the Saptam pairs cancels houses that the pair analysis would have promoted, and the result is a different, shorter answer.
Where this is used
Effective links are what a Dasa–Bhukti reading is checked against: the period supplies the timing, the links supply the subject. A practitioner working by hand computes them once per chart and reuses them for every question put to it.
